An Introduction to Cannabis
Now that the stigma associated with cannabis has been removed, an honest appraisal can be given to one of the world’s most potent herbs. While many were aware of the reality that it was merely a plant that could not do any harm, the public at large have now recognized that cannabis is a legal product which can be used to treat a variety of conditions. It is helpful for revenue at the state and federal level as well as for local communities. Aside from this the main benefit is that it will improve the wellbeing of regular citizens and make ordinary life more relaxed and enjoyable for those who want to use marijuana for recreational or medical purposes.
The Benefits of Marijuana
The benefits of marijuana cannot be understated. It is currently being investigated for its help in alleviating a number of conditions. These conditions include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, insomnia, pain and muscle cramps, immune disorders, anxiety, depression, glaucoma, schizophrenia, bi-polar, arthritis and much more besides. It is linked with an increase in creativity and in thinking of solutions that are outside of the box. It is proven to be effective in stress relief.
The health benefits of cannabis are linked to the famous THC compound which is released from the plant when combusted or vaporized. The THC has an effect on our endocannabinoid system, which has an effect on nearly all vital physiological processes. These processes include cognition, memory, focus, immune function, emotional processing, appetite, motor control, pain and temperature regulation. The THC in marijuana binds to the cannabinoid receptors in human cells which produces the effects associated with THC.
Why so Many Cannabis Colors?
There is lot more to cannabis than meets the eye. There are so many different strains of cannabis and so many different ways to cultivate the plant. As well as this, there are a large number of methods to inhale marijuana. Each cannabis bud has its own hue of a different variety of colors which make it unique. On top of this, each strain of marijuana actually changes color as the flowering process takes place.
The colors of cannabis are dependent on the DNA of the marijuana. Anthocyanins are a form of molecules classified as flavonoids (flavonoids have proven health benefits). According to the PH level of the flavonoids, the bud will be different colors. Anthocyanins are the molecules which give the cannabis its blue, violet or red pigment. Purple is the most commonly observed color in terms of green cannabis. The flavonoids do not affect the taste of smell of the plant itself. Here is an exact list of the colors associated with certain compounds found in the cannabis plant:
- Carotenoids –Orange/Yellow
- Chlorophyll – Green
- Lycopene – Red
- Anthoxanthin – White/Cream
- Anthocyanin – Blue/Purple
Marijuana does not actually produce any color until the second half of the flowering stage. Temperature is another component which will influence the color of the strain of marijuana. Different colors will appear if the temperature is lower or higher. During the flowering stage, you can influence the temperature to bring out certain anthocyanins, which will lead to different colors.
The color of a plant has different meanings. Purple, pink and red hues are a sign that the plant is potent. Pure green is an indication that the plant was grown in a cold climate. Sparkling green bud is much sought after, as is purple. A lack of nitrogen, a very important nutrient to marijuana plants, will lead to deficiencies. This can be observed from yellow leaves on the plant. The same occurs when there is a lack of potassium, another important nutrient. A lack of magnesium, zinc, and calcium will also cause a lack of vibrancy and color.
Each color comes with its own story. Deep Purple is a much sought after color and is available in strains such as Purple Haze, Purple Urkel and Grand Daddy Purple. Purple is one of the easier colors for cannabis cultivators to attain, and cool nighttime temperatures are important for its appearance. Ruby red and pink are a little more difficult to cultivate, and phosphorous is key to its development. Gold and yellow buds form due to a high level of carotenoids.
The Color of Cannabis
Many variables influence the colors of cannabis. These variables include genetics, the PH level, temperature, light, nutrients and the availability of sugar. Marijuana is different colors for many reasons and you can judge the effects of marijuana by the colors of the bud with some experience.
